The Least of These | Pastor Josh Hersey

At Church on the Rock, we’ve been praying Psalm 143:10: “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing.” As part of our discipleship journey, The MOVE, we believe following God’s will means defending and uplifting “the least of these.” Poverty’s deepest wound isn’t hunger, it’s hopelessness. But through local churches, Compassion International is releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name by meeting physical needs and introducing them to the gospel.
This message isn’t about charity — it’s about discipleship. We learn how each of us can provide food, clean water, education, and medical care, while also building a real relationship with a child through letters and updates. More than that, you get to speak hope and value into their life and fulfill 1 John 3:18: “Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” We can’t rescue every child, but each of us can rescue one. And for that one child, it changes everything, for now and for eternity.
